Setup Guide
The Professional Foot Pedals by VEC (USB + DB9) and Pedals by VPE (USB + DB9) are both supported by NCH Software's Express Scribe transcription software. Express Scribe also supports a few other types of foot pedals which connect to a computers game control port (15 pin). Generally Olympus pedals are not supported.

Professional Foot Pedal by VEC (USB)
Setup
Setting up the FPVECUSB Infinity Foot Pedal for Express Scribe is easy.
For Windows computers, just follow the instructions below.
These instructions are for Express Scribe v4.36 and later.
- Download and install Express Scribe.
- Plug in the foot pedal to an available USB port on your computer.
- Click on 'Options' in the Express Scribe toolbar in the main window, then select the 'Controller' tab.
- Tick the option 'Enable hand-held or foot pedal controller'.
- Click on 'Controller setup wizard...', then click Next.
Select your controller from the list of detected controllers, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Next' again to confirm your controller.
- On the next screen you can custom configure your controller. To do so, left-click on any command in the window. A drop-down list will appear. Select your desired command from the list.
- On the same screen you can also press down the pedals on your controller to test that they are operational.
- When you are done, click the 'Finish' button to complete the wizard.
The pedals should now be correctly installed.
For Mac OS X version of Express Scribe 5.02 and later - See the above instructions.
For Mac OS X version of Express Scribe 5.02 and earlier - just plug them into the USB socket and run Express Scribe and they will be detected normally. Otherwise, you can also go into the Options -> Controller tab and run the foot pedal configuration tool.
Professional Foot Pedal by VPE (USB)
Setup
Setting up the FPVPEUSB for Express Scribe is easy. Just follow the instructions below. It is a two step process, but if you have already completed USB setup or Games Port setup then please ignore Stage 1.
Stage 1:
To setup your VPE / VPedal USB pedal, you must firstly ensure that the pedal is talking properly to Windows:
- Plug in the foot pedal to an available USB port on your computer.
- Go to Start -> Control Panel and select 'Game Controllers'. On the Controllers tab, click on 'Add' and enable Galy USB Joystick (if it is not already there). If you cannot see 'Game Controllers' on Windows XP, you may have to click on 'Printers and Other Hardware' before you can see 'Game Controllers'.
- Click OK and from the Controllers tab select Properties and choose the Test tab.
- Press Play on the foot pedal, the display will light Buttons 1 & 2.
- Press Fast Forward on the foot pedal, the display will light Button 2.
- Press Rewind on the foot pedal, the display will light Button 1.
- The foot pedal is "talking" to Windows correctly.
Stage 2:
To setup your VPE / VPedal USB pedal, you should follow the instructions as provided for the VEC Foot Pedal above.
For Mac OS X version of Express Scribe 5.02 and later - See the above instructions.
For Mac OS X version of Express Scribe 5.02 and earlier - just plug them into the USB socket and run Express Scribe and they will be detected normally. Otherwise, you can also go into the Options -> Controller tab and run the foot pedal configuration tool.
Professional Foot Pedal VEC/VPE DB9 (Serial Port)
Setup
Setting up the VEC FPVECDB9 or the VPE FPVPEDB9 for Express Scribe is easy. Just follow the instructions below.
- Locate the COM port socket at the back of your computer. It will be a 9-pin socket. If it contains 25 pins then you will need an adaptor.
- Plug the pedal in and restart the computer.
- Download and install Express Scribe.
- Click on 'Options' in the Express Scribe toolbar in the main window, then select the 'Controller' tab.
- Tick the option 'Enable hand-held or foot pedal controller'.
- Click on 'Controller setup wizard...', then click Next.
- Select the option 'Select a controller type manually', then click Next.
- Select 'VEC Infinity IN-DB9 (Serial)' if you are using a VEC serial foot pedal. Select 'vPedal vP-1 (Serial)' if you are using a VPE serial foot pedal. Then click Next.
- Select the COM port that the pedal is attached to, then click Next. If you chose an incorrect COM port, then software will let you know and you will have to try a different port.
- Click the 'Finish' button to complete the wizard.
